Issue Position: Education

Issue Position

Education is a local and state issue and the federal government should not be involved in educating your children.

Parents, not the government, should make educational decisions to provide the best outcome for their individual child.

I support efforts to create more educational options for children. Our current public school system is failing our children.
The Federal Government should not be in the business of educating your children. That should be left to parents, families, churches, School Boards, communities, and states.

Patrick Hisel believes no nation can remain free when the state has greater influence over the knowledge and values transmitted to children than the family does. The authority and responsibility for the public education system should be returned to the states. It is at the state and local levels where the best decisions can and should be made.

No big government spending program can or will solve our nation's education problems. One-size-fits-all central planning simply does not work.

Patrick supports homeschooling and believes these parents embody a unique dedication. In many cases, homeschooling families must forgo the second income of one parent, as well as incur the costs of paying for textbooks, computers, and other school supplies. And because our taxes are out of control, low and middle-class parents cannot even consider educational opportunities other than government schools.

Patrick will support tax credits for homeschooling families. He wants to ensure that the federal government treats high school diplomas earned through homeschooling the same as other high school diplomas.
Patrick Hisel wants to put parents back in charge. He wants parents to have the freedom to choose the best educational options for their children. As your Representative, Patrick Hisel will work to return the control of education to parents and teachers on the local level.
