This week Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen joined 153 of her congressional colleagues in a bipartisan letter to Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Kathleen Sebelius. The letter voices strong opposition to the Obama Administration's recent decision to mandate contraception coverage by insurance providers.
This unilateral decision will force many religious groups, like the Catholic Church, to betray their own beliefs. Speaker of the House John Boehner stated today that the Congress would act in order to repeal this policy.
Said Ros-Lehtinen: "I find it astounding that the Obama Administration would try to trample on the religious freedom of organizations like Catholic healthcare institutions by mandating that they provide contraceptives to those communities they serve. I am proud to have joined my congressional colleagues in letting Secretary Sebelius know that this policy goes against religious conscience protections that have been in place for decades. I look forward to working with Speaker Boehner as the Congress seeks to reverse this assault on the First Amendment rights of religious institutions."
