U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement today on news that Fatah and Hamas have come to an agreement on forming an interim Palestinian Authority (PA) government ahead of elections:
"By forming a government with Hamas, a U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organization committed to Israel's destruction, Abu Mazen and company have again chosen the path of extremism and rejectionism, rather than the path towards peace and good relations with Israel and the U.S. This move illustrates that extremist policies are entrenched within the Palestinian Authority.
"The Administration must stop pretending the PA is something it is not. The Palestinian leaders in Ramallah are not partners for peace and security, as this latest union with Hamas clearly demonstrates. It's time for the Administration to hold the PA accountable for its actions."
