Statement

Date: Feb. 8, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement in recognition of Black History Month.

"This month we honor and celebrate the history of African Americans, their contributions to our society, and the challenges they faced in a universal battle for equal rights," said Chairman Price. "The promise of America -- which has made our nation the greatest in the history of the world -- has been that citizens have the freedom and opportunity to pursue their dreams and determine their own future. The history of African Americans and their inspirational story are a reminder of just how precious that promise of equal opportunity and freedom is to an America that leads the world in innovation and prosperity -- an America that can always look to a brighter future. African Americans have contributed wonderfully to the character and success of America -- to our rich culture, our achievements, and the expression of freedom. As we recognize Black History Month, we honor the cause of liberty and equal opportunity which must be preserved for future generations of all Americans."
