U.S. Rep. Karen Bass Votes Against Bill to Extend the Pay Freeze for Members of Congress and Federal Employees

U.S. Rep. Karen Bass made the following statement following her vote against H.R. 3835, to extend the pay limitation for Members of Congress and federal employees.

"Today, I voted against a careless bill that House Republicans are attempting to use as another political scheme. Republicans are calling for a pay freeze among Members of Congress and federal workers, simply to force House Democrats to vote in favor of the irresponsible bill. I will not stand for the smoke and mirrors routine my Republicans colleagues are creating by attaching Congressional Member pay to this legislation.

"Democrats have brought forward a sensible bill that will only freeze the pay of Congress, but not at the expense of working class Americans. I urge Republicans to stop using federal workers as a scapegoat to distract from what is really at stake in our country and get back to what will actually help American people -- creating jobs, and extending unemployment benefits and the payroll tax holiday."
