Representative Jeff Denham issued the following statement in response to President Obama's Annual State of the Union address on January 24, 2012:
"In the past three years, America has witnessed the longest period of sustained high unemployment since the Great Depression. Americans have seen the negative impacts of the Administration's policies, taxpayers and businesses are uncertain how their money will be spent, and the Central Valley has among the highest foreclosure and unemployment rates in the nation. Now is the time for both chambers of Congress to come together and work to put Americans back to work.
"Creating efficiencies is important to eliminate the waste we see in government today. I look forward to working with the Administration to literally shrink the size of government by reevaluating and consolidating our federal footprint. Together with the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, I am also finding solutions to address the immediate infrastructure concerns across our nation and spur job creation. If the Administration is serious about getting Americans back to work, we need to focus on shovel-ready, common sense infrastructure projects that will improve our communities and get our economy back on track."
