Congressman Jon Runyan (R-NJ) issued the following statement following President Barack Obama's State of the Union address.
"I applaud the President for coming to a joint session of Congress to give his assessment of the state of our Union. Unfortunately his speech was filled with the same rhetoric with little specifics like all of his previous addresses. The first step to helping our economy is getting our federal spending in order. The address contained deserved praise for our men and women in uniform, but he continues to push for even more cuts to the Department of Defense. These cuts will hurt both our nation's ability to defend ourselves and one of the last major domestic manufacturers. President Obama made mention of the foreclosure problem facing millions of homeowners. He laid out a plan to help these homeowners, but fails to realize that without job creation many of these homeowners will just be foreclosed on in the near future. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House of Representatives and Senate and the President in getting our fellow Americans back to work, turning our economy around and protecting this nation and its citizens."
