Nunnelee Newsletter: Common Sense Budget Reforms

Location: Unknown

Dear Friends,

This week, as part of our effort to change the culture of Washington, the House passed the Baseline Reform Act, which would end the practice of automatically increasing spending. No responsible business or family declares they are going to spend more next year than they did this year no matter how much their fiscal situation changes. Yet this is precisely how Congress has been doing business for over 40 years, and it has to stop. Our reform will use the same definition of a spending cut that the American people use: actually spending less money.

In addition, we passed the Pro Growth Budgeting Act, which would require the Congressional Budget Office to examine not just the cost of legislation to the federal government, but the impact it would have on the economy. Washington should not be in the business of writing and passing bills without giving thought to what effects they will have in the real world. These two bills are simple, but they are important parts of what we were sent here to do: restore practical, common sense conservative values to Congress.

Stay in touch and God bless,

Representative Patrick Nunnelee
