Congressman Kevin McCarthy released the following statement in reaction to this morning's employment report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics:
"While this morning's report is welcome news, it comes on the heels of Wednesday's Congressional Budget Office report that showed GDP growth last year was a menial 1.6%. It also predicted that unemployment will reach 8.9% by the end of this year. The CBO's report and this morning's unemployment report should serve as a reminder to the President to prioritize working with House Republicans to fix our economy over his re-election campaign. It was three years ago this week when President Obama stated that if he didn't turn the economy around in three years, his presidency would be a one term proposition. Clearly the President's economic policies have not spurred the growth we need, even by his own standards. It is also long past due for Senate Democrats to get off the sidelines and get engaged by passing the nearly 30 jobs bills sitting in their chamber.
"For the last year, House Republicans have focused on empowering small businesses to spur job creation, increasing competitiveness, and responsibly reducing our debt and deficits. We remain committed to advancing job-creating policies designed to get the more than 13 million unemployed Americans back to work. It's time for the President and Congressional Democrats to join us."
