Capito Blasts Administration For Holding Energy Resources Hostage

Statement

Date: Jan. 19, 2012
Issues: Oil and Gas

Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., a member of HEAT (House Energy Action Team) and Co-Founder of the Congressional Coal Caucus, blasted the Administration for its latest installment in a series of decisions to hold energy resources hostage.

Today the Administration is expected to announce that it will not approve the Keystone XL 1,700-mile pipeline and miss the opportunity to create thousands of jobs.

"Is this Groundhog Day? Another day, another missed opportunity to create jobs. We have a chance to create thousands of good jobs while greatly reducing our dependence on foreign oil and the President is saying he needs a little more time to think about it? The Administration missed a tremendous opportunity, and House Republicans will not let this be the last word," stated Capito. "This is the Administration's M.O.: delay and obstruct job creation and access to energy. They're delaying the Keystone pipeline permit, effectively killing the plan; they continue to delay 404 permits in Appalachia which is causing a slow-bleed of jobs in the mining industry; they're dragging their feet when it comes to issuing permits for the Outer Continental Shelf. How is this nation supposed to meet our energy needs if we can't mine coal, drill for gas, or build pipelines to access oil?"
