At a press conference with Republican leaders today, Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) highlighted the newly-introduced American Energy & Infrastructure Jobs Act (H.R. 7), legislation that will create more than one million jobs by removing government barriers to American energy production, lowering gas prices and funding high-priority, streamlined infrastructure projects -- with no earmarks. Following are video and text of Congressman Boehner's remarks:
"The president's economic policies have failed to improve our economy, and in fact they've made them worse. House Republicans this week are going to continue our focus on getting our economy moving again. The [American Energy & Infrastructure Jobs Act] will be worked on in committee, we hope to have it on the floor in the coming weeks.
"Reform the way we build highways and rebuild highways, and we'll link this to American energy production. The president, in his State of the Union address, called for an all-of-the-above energy strategy, and House Republicans fully agree. We believe that opening up the Intermountain West and the OCS will provide needed revenues to help fund the rebuilding of our roads and bridges.
"This all part of our plan for American job creators. We've passed 30 bills, 27 of them are still sitting in the United States Senate. It's time for the Senate to act, and allow the American people the chance to get back to work."
