Marchant Responds to the State of the Union Address

Statement

Today, Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) released the following statement in response to the President's State of the Union address:

"The American people are hurting and want jobs. Tonight, the President offered the same old reheated class warfare rhetoric and empty promises he's offered since he took office. The President says job creation is important to him, yet he blocked the Keystone pipeline project that has strong bipartisan support in the halls of Congress. Working with Canada, a key ally, the project would have created thousands of private-sector jobs and was even supported by the President's own "Jobs Council.'

"Instead of being about the people's business, the President made clear that he has no plans to take off from his endless campaign. Meanwhile, House Republicans continue to pass budgets (something the Senate Democrats have not done for 1,000 days) and add to our list of 28 jobs bills we've passed that are sitting in the Senate awaiting action. For the sake of millions of jobless Americans, I hope the President reconsiders and takes a break from campaigning to work with Congress on slashing spending and passing legislation that cuts red tape and frees up capital for small businesses."
