Congressman Steve Scalise today blasted President Obama for rejecting the proposed Keystone XL pipeline, throwing away the chance to create 20,000 high-paying American jobs and further jeopardizing our energy security.
"By rejecting the Keystone Pipeline, President Obama turned his back on 20,000 middle class families who were hoping to get the jobs that would have been created by the pipeline, and he also weakened America's energy security by sending that Canadian energy to China and making us more dependent on Middle Eastern oil," Scalise said. "What does President Obama have against the creation of 20,000 middle class jobs? Today's rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline by President Obama highlights a clear lack of leadership and a lack of understanding regarding the need for America to reduce our dependence on Middle Eastern oil. We cannot afford to be dependent on Middle Eastern countries for our oil, and it's unfortunate that President Obama keeps turning his back on American workers and American energy, but instead he continues to lead us down a path of dependence on foreign countries who don't like us."
