Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis/Arlington) joined tens of thousands of people on the National Mall in Washington, DC on Monday for the 39th annual March for Life. The Congressman had a chance to address the rally, which is consistently one of the biggest events each year in the Nation's Capitol.
"God bless each and every one of you for coming out today to show that you are for life. I am a pro-life congressman and I'll guarantee you that we will eliminate Roe vs. Wade. We appreciate your inspiration by coming to Washington to show the country, not just the Congress, that this is a pro-life country. God bless you and God bless yours."
Rainy, cold conditions in Washington did not stop the enthusiastic crowd from cheering after Rep. Barton's remarks.
After the event, he added to what he said while on stage:
"It has been 39 years since Roe vs. Wade made abortion legal, and while pro-life Members of the House of Representatives can't yet overturn this deadly decision -- we are stronger in this Congress than the last one and we are ready to make an impact.
"I am prolife because I believe that all life is precious and should be respected and I back that up with my vote.
"As a lawmaker, I believe I have a constitutional and moral obligation to protect those who do not have the power to protect themselves."
After hearing from dozens of members of Congress and several religious leaders, participants marched from the National Mall to the Supreme Court. Their goal was to send one simple message: Protect Life!
