Congressman Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) today released the following statement in response to news reports that President Barack Obama will formally reject a permit to build the Keystone XL pipeline:
"I am astonished by the Administration's selfish and reckless decision to block the Keystone pipeline construction, which will prevent tens of thousands of new American jobs from being created," said Broun. "It is obvious that the President is trying to appeal to radical environmental groups in an effort to get reelected, rather than focusing on what is best for America. Moreover, it is much more prudent to get our oil through our friends in Canada rather than having to depend on imports from hostile nations like Iran. I urge the President to reconsider all of the benefits of building the pipeline, and to make the rational decision that will expand our energy resources, protect our national security interests, and put people back to work."
