Congressman Rivera on State of the Union: President Obama Should Lead By Example, Urge Senate to Pass Jobs Bills, Budget

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman David Rivera (FL-25) released the following statement regarding President Barack Obama's State of the Union address.

"While Florida residents continue to struggle to improve their own economic situation, President Obama gives his third State of the Union address. During the last three years our nation's economy has worsened. The unemployment rate is higher than when President Obama was inaugurated and our national debt has grown to more than $15 trillion.

"Unfortunately, according to the President and Democrats in the Senate, the solution to these problems is not only more government participation in the private sector, but more government spending as a means to help an ailing economy.

"Meanwhile, today marks 1,000 days since the Democrat Senate passed a federal budget. That is no way to run a government, much less a country.

"On the other hand, the House of Representatives has approved 30 bills aimed at job creation, many of which are efforts supported by the President. These bills are currently waiting for approval from the Senate. The President should call for the Senate to pass these bills to truly put our economy on the right path.

"If the President is going to speak on the importance of being hardworking and responsible, he has to lead by example."
