Statement from Rep. McCarthy on State of the Union Address

Statement

Date: Jan. 24, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY4) issued the following statement in response to President Barack Obama's 2012 State of the Union Address:

"The President laid out an ambitious agenda to keep our economic recovery going, and he's right to stress that we need fundamental and long-term structural changes to our economy to keep America strong. I'm glad that he focused on working together and fairness for all Americans. Let's start by passing a long-term extension to the payroll tax cut for middle-class Americans, which both Republicans and Democrats should agree upon. Right now, nothing is more important than putting politics aside and working together to get our economy back on track."
