Congressman Kevin McCarthy released the following statement in response to President Obama's third State of the Union Address:
"Over the last year, House Republicans have focused our jobs agenda on empowering small businesses -- the engine of job growth in America. Yet, tonight the President continued to promote the same failed policies of the past three years. The theme of President Obama's address is "Built to Last," but if continued, his economic policies will unfortunately make an America that is "built for last." The result has been that hard working taxpayers across this country have been forced to pay for his failed policies while unemployment has remained above eight percent for thirty-five straight months and $4.6 trillion has been added to the national debt. This has not, and it will not get us out of the economic mess we are currently in.
"In the months ahead, House Republicans will continue fighting for policies that will get Americans working again. We'll advance pro-growth policies such as tax reform, a domestic energy and infrastructure agenda and we will pass a budget -- something Senate Democrats have not done in 1,000 days. We hope the President will not continue to be distracted by the campaign trail, and take us up on our past offers to work together to find common ground."
