Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard released the following statements regarding President Obama's State of the Union message:
"I agree wholeheartedly with the President that this is a make or break moment for the middle class and those working hard to reach it. We must do more to create jobs and restore people's confidence. Students who work hard to obtain a degree should be secure in the knowledge that there will be jobs available to them when they graduate. The President is right; Congress must make jobs its top priority."
"Across the country people have been hard hit by the foreclosure crisis and my district is no exception. The President's proposal moves us in the right direction; however we must be aggressive in our efforts to prevent foreclosures, resuscitate the ailing housing market, and hold those who created this mess accountable."
Energy & Environment
"The President is right that both our national security and our economy depend on our ability to produce our own energy. We cannot continue to rely on oil from unstable nations around the world. Renewable investments are creating new jobs every day, and we must continue to meet the challenge of producing clean energy."
"Comprehensive immigration reform is desperately needed in this country, and we should be working on it right now. I introduced the DREAM Act so students can, as the President said, "staff our labs, start new businesses and defend our country.' This can only happen if students have the chance to realize their potential, irrespective of their legal status. The DREAM Act would give them a path to becoming permanent, lawful citizens."
