Hearing to Examine The Role of DHS in the Intelligence Community

U.S. Representative Sue Myrick (NC), Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on
Terrorism, HUMINT, Analysis, and Counterintelligence (THACI) today announced an open hearing on the
role of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the Intelligence Community. In this hearing, the
Aspen Institute's Homeland Security Group will unveil its paper, "Homeland Security and Intelligence:
Next Steps in Evolving the Mission." Witnesses from the Aspen Institute will include former DHS
Secretary Michael Chertoff, former Deputy Director of FBI's National Security Branch and Deputy
Director of CIA's Counterterrorist Center Philip Mudd, and former Deputy National Security Advisor for
Combating Terrorism Juan Zarate.

"With this open hearing, we will continue to explore the proper intelligence role for DHS as the threat to
the homeland gets more complicated, and as the need for actionable, homeland-focused intelligence
that is shared among all levels of government and law enforcement grows accordingly," Rep. Myrick
said. "The views of these high-caliber witnesses will be invaluable in this regard."
