Blog: Share Your Story -- BE HEARD

Statement

In December, Congress passed a two-month extension of President Obama's payroll tax cut for 160 million middle class working Americans, insurance benefits for over 2 million Americans as they look for work, and ensured that 48 million Americans will not lose access to their doctors.

But the clock is ticking. Unless Congress acts by the end of February, millions of Americans will see their taxes increase. Assistance to Americans who lost their jobs through no fault of their own will expire. And millions of seniors could lose access to their Medicare doctors. The last thing the American people and our economy need is another unnecessary and avoidable crisis like those we faced repeatedly in 2011.

As a member appointed to serve on the House-Senate conference committee -- charged with developing the long-term solution for these critical services -- I have voiced my desire to move quickly to resolve these urgent matters. But my calls for immediate actions have gone unanswered and the conference committee has yet to meet.

Congress needs to know that the American people can't wait. That is why I am asking for you to share your story -- to be heard -- using the comments section below.

With an extra $40 in each paycheck, tell me how President Obama's middle class tax cut helps you and your family. If you receive unemployment insurance benefits and are struggling to find a job, share with me how the assistance affects your life. And let me know how Medicare helps you gain access to the doctor and care that you need.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
