Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after Congressman Maurice Hinchey announced he would not seek another term in Congress this year:
"Congressman Maurice Hinchey is a lifelong public servant, a dedicated representative for New York's 22nd district and the Hudson Valley, and a strong voice for America's working families and the middle class. He answered the call to serve his country as a young man, joining the U.S. Navy right out of high school and deploying overseas; when he returned home, he gave back to his community by serving in the New York State Assembly and the U.S. House of Representatives.
"From his seat on the Appropriations Committee, Congressman Hinchey has always put his constituents and his state first -- creating good-paying jobs with investments in local highway projects, protecting family farms and a safe food supply, and acting to preserve our natural resources and national parks. He has upheld our obligation to our men and women in uniform. As a key advocate for renewable energy, he led the charge to transform upstate New York into a hub for high-tech, clean energy manufacturing, solar energy research, and innovation.
"As he moves on to future endeavors, Congressman Hinchey will be missed by all House Democrats."
