Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA), Co-Chair of the National Service Caucus, released the following statement ahead of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 16th:
"Every January, we are afforded the opportunity to celebrate the life and legacy of a man who taught our nation what it means to dedicate one's life to the betterment of their country and their world. As Dr. King once said, "Make a career of humanity. You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in.'
"Dr. King is a shining example of what any one person can accomplish, and through national service, we continue to honor his work and advance his vision. On Monday, as we stop to celebrate Dr. King, I encourage all Americans to remember Dr. King's words and think of the day as a "day on', rather than a "day off'."
