Governor Tomblin Releases Regional and Local Education Efficiency Audits of West Virginia's Primary and Secondary Education System

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced the four regional and local school system audits conducted for the Education Efficiency Audit of West Virginia's Primary and Secondary Education System are now online.

Public Works LLC reviewed Taylor County Schools, Wyoming County Schools, Harrison County Schools and Regional Education Service Agency 7 (RESA) to identify inefficiencies and discover potential cost savings. Data from these audits support the state audit report released last week.

"Taylor, Harrison, and Wyoming school systems and RESA 7 were chosen because they give us an accurate depiction of our state's rural, suburban and urban learning environments. The findings are as much about those individual counties as they are about school systems of equal size and description throughout West Virginia," Gov. Tomblin said. "I want to thank the people of Taylor, Harrison, Wyoming and RESA 7 education systems for their participation in this effort and encourage all West Virginians to review and discuss these reports so we can begin to build the education system our children need to thrive in the future workplace."

A copy of the full reports can be found online on the governor's website at www.governor.wv.gov/initiatives/Pages/ImprovingWestVirginiasEducationSystem.aspx.

Public Works and its partner firm, MGT of America, conducted the audit and held community events as well as conducted surveys and other assessment methods to complete the audit of the education system on the state, regional and local levels.
