Clarke's statement on the Metro Detroit Light Rail Project

Statement

Date: Dec. 14, 2011
Location: Detroit, MI
Issues: Transportation

Rep. Hansen Clarke, D- Detroit, voiced concern today about the U.S. Department of Transportation's decision to possibly defund the light-rail line along the Woodward Avenue corridor in Detroit. Rep. Clarke made the following statement:

"We need light rail in addition to Bus Rapid Transit in Metro Detroit. Both are essential to an effective transportation system and to create jobs. I'm reaching out to Mayor Bing, Governor Snyder and federal officials to see what avenues we can take to ensure funding and support for light rail projects. The formation of a Regional Transit Authority is an essential part of securing federal support and funding. "
