Gary Peters Statement on Oakland County Judge Upholding Planned Parenthood's Right to Build Facility in Auburn Hills

Statement

Date: Jan. 11, 2012
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Issues: Abortion

Today U.S. Rep. Gary Peters issued the following statement after an Oakland County judge upheld Planned Parenthood's right to build a facility in Auburn Hills.

"As a longtime supporter of women's health, I am very pleased with Circuit Judge James Alexander's decision which allows Planned Parenthood to move forward with building a facility in Auburn Hills. In 2010, Planned Parenthood found that 5,400 Oakland County women a year go to Planned Parenthood facilities in other counties because there isn't one in Oakland County. This facility will provide necessary care for thousands of women who need and deserve a local health care provider focused on women's health. Family planning services for low-income women have been proven to be effective in preventing millions of unplanned pregnancies and abortions over the past 40 years, and this issue should be common ground for all Americans who want to see the need for abortion reduced."
