Chabot Urges Supreme Court to Declare Health Care Law Unconstitutional

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Steve Chabot joined 116 colleagues in Congress, more than 100,000 Americans, and the American Center for Law and Justice on Friday to urge the U.S. Supreme Court to declare President Obama's health care law unconstitutional.

"Based on the individual mandate alone, President Obama's health care law is unquestionably unconstitutional," Rep. Chabot said. "The mandate forces Americans to purchase health insurance or face legal action. This law is deeply flawed and it is my sincere belief that our highest court will come to that conclusion."

The amicus brief filed on Friday points to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals conclusion that the individual mandate is unconstitutional but the law in its entirety is not. The brief argues that the two cannot be separated, therefore the entire Affordable Care Act must be declared unconstitutional.

The Supreme Court will begin to hear arguments on the health care law in March.
