Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) released the following statement:
The last thing that the middle class families, the unemployed, and seniors in my district and across America need is more uncertainty. That is why I have supported a full one-year extension of the payroll tax cut, unemployment insurance, and Medicare doctor fees. I strongly urge Republicans and Democrats to come to the table and negotiate a bipartisan, one-year compromise in good faith.
In the interim I believe it is essential that Congress lock-in the Senate's bipartisan proposal for a two-month extension to protect a payroll tax cut of $1000, on average, for 160 million Americans; to extend unemployment benefits for 2.2 million Americans; and to ensure that 48 million seniors don't lose access to their doctors. The negotiations on a full-year extension should begin immediately and I am willing to stay here until we get the deal done.
