House Republicans Keep Our Focus on Jobs, Solutions

Statement

House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement regarding the efforts of House Republicans to help job creators and the goal of a full year extension of the payroll tax reduction, unemployment benefits, and the Medicare physician reimbursement rate.

"It is positive to see that Congressional Democrats have finally warmed to the idea of a conference committee to come together and resolve our differences on these very important issues," said Chairman Price. "At the close of last year, House Republicans fought for a full-year extension of the payroll tax reduction and unemployment insurance and a two-year solution to provide certainty for our seniors that they would still have access to Medicare physicians. In fact, the House of Representatives passed such a bill. The Senate then failed to agree on these long-term solutions and punted for a two-month break. When House Republicans called for Congress to return and go to a conference committee, Democrats refused. House Republicans understood the importance of finding solutions to these challenges and found a way forward in spite of Democrats' refusal to work with us. American families, businesses, and seniors need the certainty that only long-term, positive solutions can provide."
