BUNNING APPLAUDS DECISION TO SPEED NEW MEDICARE BENEFITS TO LOW-INCOME SENIORS

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Jim Bunning today applauded the Department of Health and Human Services' decision to begin automatically enrolling certain low-income Medicare beneficiaries in the newly created Medicare drug discount card program. The beneficiaries who will be affected by this change are low-income and are enrolled in state Medicaid programs that help pay for Medicare's premiums and deductibles.

"The decision to begin automatically enrolling these low-income beneficiaries will ensure that those who need the $600 yearly credit the most will begin receiving it," said Bunning. "It is critical that low-income beneficiaries take advantage of this money and assistance. The Department of Health and Human Services is taking the right steps by helping some of our nation's most needy seniors and disabled individuals."
