Womack's Statement on Payroll Tax Cut Extension

Statement

Date: Dec. 22, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Womack released the following quote regarding the deal to extend the payroll tax cut for two months:

"The agreement to move the issue to a conference committee is a positive sign and one that I can support. In the last few days, it has become obvious that the level of bi-partisan support the two month extension has in the Senate would be difficult to overcome. Differences still remain on how we pay for this extension, and Congress will have to work hard in the New Year to resolve those differences. For now, this approach should allow Members to enjoy the holidays with their families and save America from the frustration of a dysfunctional Congress at an otherwise wonderful time of year.

"The Keystone XL Pipeline project and technical corrections to the two month payroll tax cut extension were very important components of our agreement to extend. I am pleased with those outcomes.

"I am hopeful House Republicans will agree to the Unanimous Consent motion to approve this agreement."
