Rep. Young Votes to Cut Taxes, Create Jobs

With Alaska Congressman Don Young's support, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3630, the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act of 2011. This important legislation extends many provisions scheduled to expire at the end of the year. Most importantly, this legislation is fully paid-for and includes extensions of the payroll tax holiday and unemployment benefits as well as a two-year freeze on cuts to doctors who provide Medicare services.

"This is a good bill for the American people," said Rep. Young. "Instead of extending the payroll tax holiday and unemployment benefits on the backs of seniors, this plan actually protects the Social Security Trust Fund. Even more important, this bill is fully paid for and follows the President's own recommendation to reform the Unemployment Insurance program in a way that will help job seekers. This is too important to Alaskans for us to dillydally around and play games; it's time for the Senate to start doing its job and pass something that will help the American people."

This legislation also includes a provision that would force a decision by the Obama Administration on the Keystone XL energy pipeline within 60 days unless the President determines the project is not in the national interest. Additionally, H.R. 3630 restricts Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations such as the "Boiler MACT rules."
