Senator Ayotte's Statement on Obama Recess Appointments

Location: Manchester, NH

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) released this statement following President Obama's decision today to make recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

"The President's recess appointments today set a troubling precedent that defies the Senate's constitutional advice and consent role.

"I am deeply concerned that the President decided to appoint three members, including a pro-union labor lawyer, to the NLRB without Senate confirmation. The NLRB under this Administration continues to overreach its authority and demonstrate a flagrantly anti-jobs agenda. With unemployment still hovering near nine percent, the Administration should instead be focused on eliminating existing burdensome mandates that discourage employers from hiring American workers.

"Equally disturbing is the fact that the President's new consumer protection czar will have unchecked authority to meddle in every corner of our economy. Transparency and accountability should form the backbone of consumer protection efforts, yet despite repeated requests, the Administration has failed to take steps to provide greater accountability to the agency."
