Guthrie: House Bill Protects Workers, Taxpayers

Statement

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) announced Tuesday, December 13, 2011, the House passed H.R. 3630, the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2011.

The legislation would extend the payroll tax holiday, extend and reform the unemployment insurance program and protect Medicare beneficiaries' access to physicians.

"Today, on a bipartisan basis, the House passed legislation to extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment insurance. The bill protects the Social Security trust fund and includes meaningful reforms of the unemployment insurance program by lifting the current prohibition on drug testing and ensuring that recipients are actively looking for a job," Congressman Guthrie said. "H.R. 3630 also authorizes the Keystone XL energy pipeline which will create an estimated 100,000 high-paying American jobs and support energy independence. This is just another step in the House Republicans' pro-growth plan to create jobs and get our economy moving again and I encourage the Senate to follow suit and pass this bill."
