U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, released the following remarks after the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) made the announcement to delay postal closings until mid-May:
"I am very pleased the USPS has agreed to postpone the planned postal closures until the spring. During this season of giving, 100,000 postal workers across the country can celebrate with loved ones, instead of distressing over possible cutbacks. My staff and I have been attending postal meetings throughout the 5th District, where we stood to withstand closures throughout, and we will continue to actively monitor the situation.
"I remain supportive of USPS and understand the plights of its employees. I agree action is needed to avoid a collapse. However, the underlying fiscal problems of the Postal Service need to be addressed, so that this valuable service can endure."
U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, represents Louisiana's 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Appropriations Committee.
