Congressman Kevin McCarthy gave the following remarks at a House Republican leadership press conference:

"Today we have serious business; we will have a bill on the floor that, yes, keeps the middle class protected, but also creates jobs. And if you're wondering what it's going to do about jobs on the Keystone XL Pipeline project, today in Arkansas 60 people are being laid off because of the President's lack of decision on Keystone right now. So you want to have a direct effect today on jobs? You want to have a direct effect today on what people keep in their paychecks for Christmas? Today is the opportunity on the floor to do it."

"Today we have serious business; we will have a bill on the floor that, yes, keeps the middle class protected, but also creates jobs. And if you're wondering what it's going to do about jobs on the Keystone XL Pipeline project, today in Arkansas, 60 people are being laid off because of the President's lack of decision on Keystone right now. So you want to have a direct effect today on jobs? You want to have a direct effect today on what people keep in their paychecks for Christmas? Today is the opportunity on the floor to do it.

"If your question is 'will we pass it,' the answer is yes, we will pass it. The question is now, when we have worked in a bipartisan manner on the Appropriations bill, will Harry Reid put people before politics? The President was right, we cannot wait; we cannot continue to wait on the Senate. Twenty-seven bills are sitting over there to create jobs, and people being laid off today in Rep. Tim Griffin's district in Arkansas -- this House will not wait, this House will pass the bill. We will send it to the Senate, and we expect them to put people before politics."
