House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement on the passage of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act:
"Today, the House showed bipartisan support in passing the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act. This common sense bill prevents a tax increase on middle class Americans, reforms the unemployment insurance program, creates thousands of jobs, and helps small businesses and job creators. By moving forward on bipartisan proposals that approve the Keystone Pipeline project and remove harmful regulations, our bill paves the way for the creation of tens of thousands of new jobs. It also extends the expensing provision, an idea included in the President's jobs plan that encourages small businesses to invest, expand and begin hiring again.
"While Republicans and Democrats certainly don't agree on everything, this bipartisan bill shows that it is possible to make incremental progress on areas of common ground and produce results. If President Obama and Senator Reid are serious about helping middle class Americans and getting the economy going, they will support this bill. If they're serious about job creation and helping small businesses, they'll support this bill. We agree, Mr. President, we can't wait."
