U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) issued the following statement in the wake of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) announcement that it dropped its controversial case against airline manufacturer Boeing.
"The NLRB's decision to drop the case against Boeing came only after the union signed off on a new contract, which essentially confirms that this was nothing more than an administration power grab on behalf of Big Labor. The fact remains that this assault on workers, states, and businesses could easily happen again. The NLRB overreach put right-to-work states, like Arkansas, on notice that they need to "play ball' by the administration's rules. This is unacceptable behavior that needs to be stopped before more damage is done," Boozman said.
BACKGROUND: On April 20th, in an unprecedented move, the NLRB ruled that Boeing violated federal labor law by building a second production line for its 787 Dreamliner at a non-union factory in South Carolina. This decision appeased Washington State labor unions and punished South Carolina for its business-friendly work environment. In addition, because Arkansas and South Carolina are both right-to-work states, this dangerous ruling could have a devastating impact on future job creation in Arkansas.
In an effort to protect state-rights and stop this massive government overreach, Boozman cosponsored the Job Protection Act, which preserves the rights of right-to-work states, overturns the NLRB Boeing decision, and scales back the NRLB's authority.
