Statement on the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act

Location: Washington, DC

This week the U.S. House of Representatives passed the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, which allows anyone that has a concealed weapon permit in one state to carry their firearm in any other state that also permits concealed carrying. Below is a statement from U.S. Representative Karen Bass (D-CA) regarding the issue:

"I am disheartened that my colleagues in the House of Representatives would pass an irresponsible gun law when homicide of African American men between the ages of 15 to 34 in our communities is higher than ever. In fact, according to a 2006 study by the Center for Disease Control, homicide is the leading cause of death among Black men in this age group. This bill will only make it harder to bring these tragic numbers down. I'm committed to protecting every American against unnecessary violence and urge my colleagues in the Senate to vote no against this bill."
