Conrad: New Unemployment Numbers Reveal Encouraging Signs

Statement

Date: Dec. 2, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Kent Conrad released the following statement today after new unemployment numbers revealed an unexpected drop in the nation's unemployment rate:

"The drop in the national unemployment figure is good news. Things are headed in a better direction. Still, more needs to be done. My own belief is we need both additional steps to lift the economy in the near term, combined a with comprehensive bipartisan agreement to address our growing debt and put the economy on sounder footing long term.

"I would suggest to my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and in both houses of Congress to take another look at the Bowles-Simpson plan as well as what the Senate's "Group of Six' has recommended. The Group of Six has expanded to eight members, and we continue to work on a plan that can be brought to our colleagues for their consideration."
