Senator Inouye's Statement on the Decision to Divide Alexander & Baldwin and Matson Navigation Into Two Separate Companies

Statement

Date: Dec. 2, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Daniel K. Inouye issued the following statement today about the decision to divide Alexander & Baldwin and Matson Navigation into two separate companies.

"I am very pleased with the decision to establish two separate companies, both focused on providing a high level of service for Hawaii's residents and shareholders. Alexander & Baldwin will focus on agriculture and land matters and Matson will concentrate on shipping. I believe that this is the way it should be. I am also pleased that these companies will remain in the hands of the people of Hawaii and managed from Hawaii. These companies have meant much to our state for a very long time. In many ways, the history of Alexander & Baldwin and Matson is an important part of the history of Hawaii. I stand ready to continue to do everything I can to help these companies further their mission of providing for the people of Hawaii."
