Earlier the House Natural Resources Committee passed an amendment introduced by Congressman Jon Runyan (R-NJ). The bill under consideration, H.R. 3404, would reorganize what was formally known as the Mineral Management Service within the Department of Interior. Runyan's amendment would expand the existing preferences for hiring veterans. The bipartisan amendment passed with support by voice vote.

"I am proud that the members of the Natural Resources Committee passed this important amendment," said Rep. Runyan. "Our veterans have sacrificed so much and when they are finished with their military commitment many are finding it difficult to find employment. I have the honor of representing the largest constituency of veterans in New Jersey and have spoken to veterans about this problem first hand. By passing this amendment, we are opening up a large number of positions for vets that will hopefully ease their transition to civilian work life."
