Gov. Perdue's Statement on NFIP Deadline and Hotline Extension

Statement

Date: Nov. 23, 2011
Location: Raleigh, NC

The National Flood Insurance Program has extended the deadline for policy holders in North Carolina and 14 other states to file proof of loss statements related to Hurricane Irene. The new deadline is January 23, 2012. The Hurricane Irene flood insurance claims hotline in North Carolina also has been extended until further notice. Here is Gov. Perdue's statement on the extensions:

"Since August, Bob Etheridge and I have been working with leadership at the local, state and federal levels to ensure that all of our families, businesses and farmers who suffered damage from Hurricane Irene would get every possible bit of assistance.

When concerns arose last month about insurance coverage and filing deadlines, we worked closely with Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin, FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program staff to find solutions, coordinate re-inspections and request an extension to the deadline.

We appreciate our federal partners responding to our requests and will continue to work for all possible assistance to help North Carolinians recover from this storm."
