Gonzalez Announces He Will Not Seek Re-Election

Statement

Date: Nov. 26, 2011
Issues: Elections

"My late father and I have had the honor of representing the people of the 20th Congressional District for the past 50 years. My family, friends and thousands of supporters made it all possible and words cannot express my appreciation.

"I was first elected in 1998 following my father's retirement. He represented San Antonio for 37 years. I learned from my father and dedicated myself to representing San Antonio as he did: with commitment, hard work and honesty.

"Today I am announcing that I will not be seeking re-election. Serving in Congress has been a privilege. But today my obligation and responsibility to family will keep me from seeking another term, while at the same time allowing me to accomplish other goals I have set for myself. Thirteen months remain in my last term and I look forward to working to get our nation past the recession and on the road to brighter future."
