Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) released the following statement after the announcement that the so-called Super Committee was unable to reach an agreement:
"It's not surprising. The deck was stacked against success for the Super Committee because there is such a big ideological disagreement between the two political parties. I know the members of the committee, especially the House Republican members, tried in good faith to reach an agreement. It wasn't an unwillingness to make a deal, it's just that Republicans in the House - like me - think that the problem is excessive spending and the Democrats generally believe taxes are too low."
