Alexander: Second Amendment Rights Should Not Be Restricted

U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, released the following remarks after the House passed H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011. This legislation allows persons with valid state-issued concealed firearm permits or licenses to carry a concealed firearm in any other state that also issues concealed firearm permits or licenses. Alexander and 244 of his colleagues are cosponsors of this bipartisan, pro-Second Amendment bill, which is also backed by the National Rifle Association (NRA).

"As a lifetime member of the NRA and a long-standing member of the Congressional Sportsman Foundation, I am a proud supporter of this bill. It is the legitimate right of every law-abiding American citizen to keep and bear arms, and such freedoms, which are explicitly written in the U.S. Constitution, should not be restricted.

"The Second Amendment and the fundamental rights it grants all Americans has always been a clear-cut issue for those who stand behind the U.S. Constitution as it was intended by our forefathers. Rest assured I have consistently voted to preserve these liberties, and I will continue to support legislation that will keep them protected."
