U.S. Congressman Mike Pence today supported H.R. 1002, the Wireless Tax Fairness Act of 2011. This bill would prevent state and local governments from imposing new discriminatory taxes on wireless telecommunications services, property, or providers for five years.
"Hoosier families and businesses communicate differently today than they did just a few years ago, thanks to the growth of the wireless communications industry," said Pence. "The average tax rate on wireless services is two to three times higher than that charged for general goods and services. We need to protect consumers and encourage innovation and growth in this industry by preventing discriminatory taxes from being raised on wireless services."
