Rep. Joe Pitts (PA-16) released an updated memorandum on jobs and employment. The 8-page document, available at www.house.gov/pitts, lays out the challenges facing American workers and companies, and offers concrete steps the government can take to promote private sector growth. It details legislation passed in the House this year and bipartisan bills signed by the President.
This updates a memo first issued last summer. Memos on other subjects include healthcare, energy, economic recovery, and Wall Street bailouts and are also available on the website
Rep. Pitts' statement follows:
"Last summer, I released a detailed memorandum on the steps that we should take in Washington to help encourage private sector job growth. I've updated and revised this memo to reflect what we've done in the House, some of the things we've worked on with the President, and the many things we still need to do.
"With unemployment at 9 percent, our first priority in Congress has to be helping the unemployed and job creators. Some of the things we need to do include continuing assistance for the unemployed, reforming our tax code, balancing our budget, and reducing the cost of energy. Legislators have to work together to find areas of agreement now. We can't wait until after the next election."
