U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) today said he welcomes Chrysler's announcement to hire more than 1,100 workers while helping to retain 900 workers and invest more than $500 million in the company's Toledo Assembly Complex.

"Chrysler's plans to hire workers and invest in their Toledo plant is incredibly welcome news for the Toledo area, which has been particularly hard hit by the recession, and is home to good, hard-working families as I saw when I visited the facility earlier this year," said Portman. "While the addition of over a thousand of new jobs will strengthen Ohio's economy, there is far more Washington needs to do to get us on the path to prosperity, such as enacting tax and regulatory reform, and reducing health care and energy costs."

Chrysler's announcement means the Toledo Assembly Complex will be responsible for producing the next generation Jeep Liberty, in addition to the Dodge Nitro and Jeep Wrangler models already built at the plant. Sen. Portman visited the Toledo plant back in January and met with company leadership and employees looking for Washington to provide the type of pro-growth climate that encourages investment and expansion.
