For years, career politicians at all levels of government have been living beyond their means and leaving unprecedented amounts of debt for future generations. Many states are facing the gravest budget problems in their history. Fortunately, Virginia has been better managed than many other states. Nonetheless, since 2000 Virginia's budget has more than doubled. And the Virginia Retirement System for state employees faces an unfunded liability of over $17 billion.

As a an entrepreneur, I have always strived to do more with less, manage investors' money wisely and frugally, and maintain a balanced and sustainable budget. I will apply those same principles to taxpayers' money and the state budget in Richmond.

Government simply cannot do everything, but what it does do, it must do well. This includes maintaining transportation and infrastructure, public safety, and public schools. Setting priorities for Virginia's government and aligning funding with those priorities it essential to getting Virginia's budget on a long-term sustainable course.
